Camping

The traditional and quintessential Kiwi camping holiday experience is still a welcome feature in Central Otago. The climate and lifestyle mean that this region truly is one of the prime camping centres in New Zealand. Many families have fond memories of camping holidays over many years and even generations. With long hot summers, clear skies and clean rivers this is the place to visit.

Whatever type of camping holiday you enjoy – you will be welcomed in Central Otago. In and around urban areas campers enjoy a wide choice of fully serviced camping grounds . There are also a selection of limited facility camp sites in some smaller locations – for example The Fraser Domain – in Earnscleugh and the St Bathan’s Domain in St Bathan’s.

Where can you camp when you are in Central Otago?

If you are self contained (have your own toilet, shower and grey water storage) then you may camp at Department of Conservation (DOC) campsites, holidayparks, designated camping sites with a toilet and designated camping sites without a toilet.

If you are non self contained (no toilet, shower or grey water storage) then you may camp at DOC campsites, holiday parks and designated sites with a toilet.

Visitors are warmly welcomed in Central and with a wide open countryside there are ample areas to stay. Have a great holiday and we look forward to seeing you again.
