Births and DeathsThe births and deaths trend for Central Otago has been very positive, with births outnumbering deaths every year.
The following chart, using Statistics NZ data shows this:
The trend of births to deaths has been positive with more births than deaths. This is in spite of the fact that the population of Central Otago is on average older than the New Zealand mean and that several rural / provincial districts are already relying on net migration to drive population increases.
Statistics NZ, however, continue to forecast that deaths will outnumber births at some point in the future, beyond which time any increase in the population of the district will be totally driven by net migration.
