Central Otago is a member and financial supporter of Film Otago Southland, the regional film office for southern New Zealand.
Film Otago Southland was formed as a trust in 2008 and includes as members all the local authorities of Otago, the Southland economic development agency (Enterprise Southland) and several prominent members of the filming fraternity. It is based in Queenstown and works out of the Film Queenstown office.
The purpose of Film Otago Southland is to coordinate and have a single point of promotion for filming activities within Southland and Otago, and hence to grow the activity and economic benefit from filming within the area. By doing this it will also raise the profile of Otago and Southland as world class destinations for filming supported by consistent, professional infrastructure. Otago is home to the third largest film industry in New Zealand.
The current objectives of Film Otago Southland are:
- Facilitation and advocacy
- Growing film activity in the regions
- Fostering local talent
- Working with the community
- Fostering professional industry standards
- Cointributing to the development of he NZ Film Industry
Recent initiatives elsewhere in New Zealand and globally mean that the region faces the real risk of stagnation and decline if opportunities to cooperate and promote film activity is not pursued.
In practical terms, an approach to Film Otago Southland means that you will have the attention of people based throughout the two most southern regions of NZ, and will have all aspects of your enquiry dealt with comprehensively and seamlessly.
