About Tourism Central Otago

Tourism Central Otago (TCO) is the Regional Tourism Organisation for Central Otago, and is part of the Community Services department of Central Otago District Council. It is a resource for local Central Otago based tourism businesses as well as the Travel Trade. TCO coordinate and facilitate the marketing of Central Otago as a visitor destination.

General Manager - Glenys Coughlan

Glenys Coughlan - Tourism Central Otago - General ManagerGlenys is working ten hours a week leading the TCO team, including the i-SITEs. When she’s not at her tourism desk Glenys works as General Manager of Central Otago Winegrowers Association (COWA) and she also holds a couple of external directorships.

Born in Dunedin and having spent family holidays in Central Otago, Glenys’s honours dissertation at Otago University looked at second home development in the Maniototo.

Glenys has extensive international, national and regional experience in tourism development and marketing having worked across a range of executive, governance and consulting positions. From early days as a consultant in the tourism industry where she led a study on “The Implications of Tourism Growth” for the then NZ Tourist and Publicity Department, went on to hold senior management positions at Air New Zealand. She then moved to the advertising industry with Saatchi & Saatchi before returning to the tourism industry as CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of NZ (TIA). During her time at TIA, Glenys served on the Boards of Te Papa and also the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Industry Training Association (now Service IQ). Glenys has been Chair of Positively Wellington Tourism and a Director of Tourism New Zealand. Glenys has a strong background in public relations and event management and was most recently CEO of Positively Wellington Venues.

Glenys believes stepping into the role with Tourism Central Otago is a real privilege, “Central Otago is a very special place and we have an opportunity to determine how we want to see tourism evolve in the region. The team at TCO are first rate and I have been enjoying the opportunity to meet up with many operators in the region. We will be undertaking a bit of a refresh of our tourism strategy and I’m looking forward to running a series of workshops in the New Year” Glenys said.

Market Support - Alison Mason

Ali Mason - Tourism Central OtagoAlison Mason (Ali) joined the Tourism Central Otago team in 2006. Ali’s working history includes being the regional manager for a large national airline, marketing for a rural supplier firm, public awareness and community relations for the Department of Conservation. She has also completed formal Travel Industry training and worked in hospitality when her children were small.

Not only is Ali the person to talk to if you want to be involved with TCO’s media programme, she also monitors and reports on the Tourism Strategy actions, is involved with the Central Otago Camping forum and looks after the Community Board promotions grants applications process.

Digital and Social Media Marketing - Anthony 'Antz' Longman

Anthony 'Antz' Longman - Tourism Central OtagoAnthony Longman or 'Antz' as he is more commonly known is our Digital Marketing and Social Media specialist. He brings a varied background to his role which includes; publishing an industry leading white-water kayaking magazine, sports event management, online marketing and contract website/graphic design services. He has instructed outdoor pursuits to a tertiary level and had stints in the tourism and retail industries in Queenstown and Christchurch.

A core part of the Digital Marketing position is managing the Tourism Central Otago online presence on the www.centralotagonz.com website and key external websites such as Tourism New Zealand and TripAdvisor. Ant also manages our social media pages are managed to encourage engagement that converts to increased awareness of the region.

Trade and Consumer Marketing - Andrea Lauder

Andrea’s background includes 10 years working with Central Otago Pinot Noir Ltd, the marketing arm of the Central Otago Winegrowers Association, profiling their fabulous wines to international markets.  She also has experience in the tourism sector having managed two key Information Centres in Queenstown and having worked in the corporate office of Shotover Jet Ltd.

Andrea and her family moved to Alexandra in 2003 and have now well and truly settled into the Central Otago way of life.
