|Lombardy Cottage is a fully restored, two-bedroomed stone cottage in a peaceful woodland garden near St Bathans (20kms from the Rail Trail at Lauder). The blocked-schist house was built in 1864 by the owner and manager of the highly productive Vinegar Hill Mine. Mr Thomas Hughes would hardly credit the luxuries provided today for guests in his home 150 years after he built it for his wife Annie.
It is perfectly set up for one or two couples to enjoy the World of Difference that is Central Otago from the comforts of this authentic historic home. This peaceful and romantic retreat has two large bedrooms with fine linen, two bathrooms one with an old-fashioned claw-foot bath, a library with an open fire and book-lined shelves, a modern kitchen and generous dining-living areas.
There are good bikes with helmets for Rail Trail excursions, kayaks and lifejackets for exploring the Blue Lake, outdoor cooking facilities and a Kiwi hot tub to sooth away the aches and pains from too much outdoor activity. Enjoy a whiskey at the haunted Vulcan Hotel in St Bathans, gold pan in the gold-bearing creek which runs through the woodland or just enjoy the magnificent Hawkdun Range while sitting under a tree in the garden.
Every day makes a world of difference in Central Otago and historic Lombardy Cottage is the perfect sanctuary from which to enjoy it all.
Wi-Fi, underfloor heating and stocked pantry and in-season vegetable garden.
