Central Otago is a natural arena for events, offering something for everyone! From motorcycle rally to multisport, horses to history, and festivals for wine, food, blossoms and thyme.

Whether participating or just watching, our events have that unique Central difference; where even an event can seem like a holiday! Many of the events held in Central Otago attract national and international support. There are also a number of smaller local events throughout the year.

The annual Clyde Wine and Food Festival is held on the main street of Clyde in Central Otago. It is Otago’s biggest wine event and has established itself as a major wine festival in New Zealand.

Central Otago’s premium creative fashion event celebrates wool’s incredible qualities as a natural fibre and the ways it can be used creatively in high-fashion garments. There are three parts to the annual event each with their own unique fashion focus.

Local cafes, restaurants and cellar doors collectively produce a ‘Central Otago Regional Menu’ that will celebrates our place in four categories: Burger & Sandwich Challenge, Pie Challenge, Main Meal and Sweet/Dessert. Many of these dishes are matched with sensational local Central Otago wines, beers and juices.

Celebrate the arrival of spring in Alexandra, Central Otago. This is NZ’s longest running festival with its Grand Procession – featuring decorated floats, princesses and a party in Pioneer Park. A new favourite is the Friday night Race Around the Clock and Mardi Gras.

The Nevis Valley Gutbuster mountain bike race deservedly gets its name from the challenging 75km course from Garston Hotel, up over the Hector mountains, through the spectacular Nevis Valley, and over Duffer’s Saddle on the Old Woman Range and down to Bannockburn

The Pioneer Mountain Bike Stage Race through NZ’s Southern Alps has proven to be a true pioneering race. All those who compete love the stunning scenery, the brutal nature of the challenge, and they leave heaping praise on this epic event through New Zealand’s pristine high country.

The Run the Ridge race course will take you through the McArthur Ridge Vineyard, participants will run through the vines and around the vineyard estate. 5, 10 and 21km courses. You will experience picturesque views of beautiful Central Otago.
