Central Otago is a natural arena for events, offering something for everyone! From motorcycle rally to multisport, horses to history, and festivals for wine, food, blossoms and thyme.

Whether participating or just watching, our events have that unique Central difference; where even an event can seem like a holiday! Many of the events held in Central Otago attract national and international support. There are also a number of smaller local events throughout the year.

Central Otago’s hugely popular country music festival is back for its 32nd year with a fantastic lineup of talent over three days at the Cromwell Racecourse. Country music lovers should prepare for hoarse voices, sore feet and late nights with a three-day festival coming to Cromwell. Cromwell’s Gold ’n Notes Hoedown is one of the biggest events on the country music calendar.

The Nevis Valley Gutbuster mountain bike race deservedly gets its name from the challenging 75km course from Garston Hotel, up over the Hector mountains, through the spectacular Nevis Valley, and over Duffer’s Saddle on the Old Woman Range and down to Bannockburn

Riders in the November 2018 race will start their six days of riding with a 22km prologue at iconic Coronet Peak, with five longer stages to follow, taking riders as far south-east as Alexandra and the Clutha River, before returning to the finish line back in Queenstown, completing 450km of riding with 15,500m of climbing.
