One of New Zealand's most celebrated folk songwriters comes to Alexandra for a rare and intimate solo evening on Saturday 5th December - and he's written a song about your river.
Bob McNeill is widely known to Central Otago audiences as one half of the beloved duo Half Light, alongside flute player Rennie Pearson. This December, he makes a special solo appearance at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery in Alexandra — his first solo tour in a decade.
The timing is particularly meaningful. Bob arrives fresh from the release of Twelve Dreams of the River, his brand new album exploring themes of life, age and transition through a journey down three iconic rivers — the Waikato in the North Island, the Kelvin in his native Scotland, and the Manuherikia right here in Central Otago. For locals, there's something special about hearing those songs performed just a short walk from the river that inspired them.
A three-time New Zealand Music Award winner, Bob is celebrated for his intricate fingerstyle guitar and deeply human storytelling. The Dominion Post has compared him to Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Luka Bloom and Dougie MacLean — and audiences across New Zealand and beyond would heartily agree.
Don't miss this intimate evening with one of Aotearoa's great songwriters, right in the heart of Alexandra.
Tickets available online or over the counter at Central Stories - $25 each.
