Omakau - Manuherekia river

Leask St Omakau

A favourite with locals and campers, this riverside spot offers a deeper swimming hole with a rope swing and shallower areas for paddling. Access via a short track from the edge of town. Bring a picnic rug or head into Omakau for supplies at Four Squ

This swimming spot is popular with locals and nearby campers. Park on the main road and take the track just after the speed limit changes at the edge of the township, following it down to the Manuherikia River.

Depending on seasonal conditions, you can enjoy a deeper swimming hole with a rope swing for the more adventurous, as well as shallower areas suitable for paddling.

While there are no picnic tables, bring a picnic rug and enjoy a relaxing day by the river. Some areas are shaded by trees. In Omakau township, you’ll find a small convenience store, Four Square, as well as Muddy Creek Café for refreshments during your visit.

Respectful freedom camping is permitted along the riverbanks. Please use the public toilet facilities provided and take all rubbish with you when you leave.
