Social Media - The Basics

Are you ready to delve into the world of social media marketing? I'm excited to share with you some top tips to bring your business socials to a whole new level.

Here are 5 tips with some handy guides and references to help you through each step.

1. Make sure your business information is up to date

Ensure your profile pictures and cover photos are high-quality and relevant. Write concise and engaging bios across each platform, including essential information (location, hours, contact details).

2. Create a Goal

Before you invest any of your time into social media, think first about what you want to achieve. Is this brand awareness? An increase in sales? Brand loyalty? Come up with at least one goal, and when you are posting, think about whether each post helps to achieve your goal.

3. Where does social media fit in TO YOUR BUSINESS?

Social media is your tool to help draw in potential customers to your business. You'll want to use it to showcase your brand (who you are and what you stand for) and your unique selling points.

Have a think about where your social media content sits within the customer journey (Dream - Plan - Book - Go - Advocate). I would suggest sticking to posting content for the Dream and Plan stages on social media.

4. Is your website ready?

For most small tourism and hospitality businesses, social media is the hook or the “creative grab” to get the attention of your customer, and in most cases the call to action (in other words, what you want the customer to do) is probably visit your website to find out more information or make a booking.

Take a look at your website and ask yourself the following questions.

  • Is this information up to date?
  • Is it visually appealing?
  • As a customer, is it clear and easy to navigate to find the information I'm looking for?

If you answered no to any of those, it's a good idea to do a quick polish of your website.

5. Choose the right platforms

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • LinkedIn
  • YouTube
  • Google Business Listing
  • TripAdvisor

Remember, the key is to start small, stay consistent, and be patient. Social media success doesn't happen overnight, but with dedication and the right approach, it can significantly benefit your business.
